If you like traditions and are not afraid of the icy cold waters of Venice, you can participate or simply attend the "first swim of the year" in the Lido of Venice
On the first day of the year, the Venetians go to the beaches of Lido to take "the first bath of the year" or see those daredevils who dare to get into the cold water do it with the temperature of those dates (we came to be under zero, the sidewalks were frozen that day)
Then they distribute panettone, lentils, and wine to all who come.
The food is free, although you can leave a tip. It is a very nice tradition and, luckily, not many tourists know about it so you can integrate it into a real local custom.
